While vocal in his negative comments regarding Republicans and the current president, Chuck Schumer has also joined the growing group of Democrats turned against Hillary Clinton after her upsetting loss in the 2016 presidential election.
During her campaign, Schumer, a top ranking Democrat in the senate, stood close by Hillary Clinton but he has turned against her.
The Democratic party is currently lacking in leadership so in an interview originally published by The Washington Post, Schumer knocked down any remaining chance Hillary Clinton had to fill that power vacuum by saying:
"When you lose to somebody who has 40% popularity, you don't blame other things -- Comey, Russia -- you blame yourself… So what did we do wrong? People didn't know what we stood for, just that we were against Trump.”
This comment may help push Hillary Clinton aside to make way for Chuck Schumer's own presidential campaign in 2020. He is a high ranking Democrat senator but research has shown low approval ratings with many claiming he is a pawn of Wall St. which lies in his state.
Schumer has yet to go public with any plans to run in 2020.
However, he has said the biggest mistake made by Democrats in 2016 was not focusing more on what they believe and instead focusing on the fact that they were against Trump.
A Chuck Schumer campaign would likely be focused more on his opinions on hot topics rather than other candidates.
