We write to vehemently oppose the announcement made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which declared Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), winner of the Abia South Senatorial election which held inconclusively on February 25th 2023.
How can INEC declare APGA winner of an election which they had earlier termed "inconclusive?"
We take this as an act of betrayal and a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise Nigerians who have the legitimate right to choose their leaders.
Unless INEC is clearly agreeing that the commission has been compromised, we urge them to conduct the peaceful supplementary election they had earlier scheduled.
At this point in our nation's democracy when Nigerians are bleeding from the arrows of tribalism, nepotism and other forms of sentiments, we want INEC to play its role as an independent body capable of conducting free and fair elections. Doing the contrary will greatly undermine Nigeria's democracy and portray INEC as a commission devoid of integrity.
We demand that INEC sticks to its previous announcement of conducting a free and fair supplementary election for the affected wards in Abia South. This is the only way INEC can salvage the dwindling support Abians in Abia South has come to have for the commission.
