Who’s behind the latest crisis in PDP?

AT a time it was thought that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State had put behind the crisis that had cost it the Anambra Government House since 2006, another trouble is brewing in the party in the state and the question is, who is behind this latest one?

The latest crisis is coming on the heels of the dissolution of the State Executive Committee, SEC, by the national leadership after the victory of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi –led group at the Supreme Court.

Members of the Kenneth Emeakayi group, which identified with the Makarfi group during the battle with the Amodu Sherriff group, had apparently taken it for granted that Makarfi would naturally adopt the Emeakayi group, but it appeared that was not the thinking of some people at Abuja.

On Monday, elected officials of the party had assembled at its Awka headquarters for a meeting preparatory for the November 18 governorship election, only to encounter fierce –looking policemen barricading their office.

Several calls made to get the true picture did not yield positive result as those called were also surprised to hear that police had laid siege at the secretariat. The question is who is behind the latest PDP problem in Anambra State barely three months to the governorship election in the state?

In fact, the thinking in the state is that with the new found unity in the party at the national level, a similar situation would prevail in the state to enable it prepare adequately for the November poll, but as things stand, peace still eludes the party in the state.

Mr. Uche Offokasi, the state deputy chairman said as far as they were concerned, nobody had the right to dissolve them because they emerged through the congresses at the ward, local government and state levels.

Offokansi said: “We have just three months to the governorship election and some people are talking of dissolution of the state executive when there are no more factions in the party.

“If they are still talking of faction in Anambra State, is it not the same faction that elected Senator Ndii Obi as a delegate in Port Harcourt last year which made it possible for him to emerge as the secretary of the national caretaker committee?. If he is there in Abuja and we are dissolved, it means that his stay at the PDP national headquarters is illegal because we elected him to represent us.

“Most importantly, can we afford to face another crisis with just few months to the election? If we are dissolved, what time do we have to organize the November governorship election?
