Boeing stock has been hitting highs very often, impressing investors, as the company’s most popular aircraft bring in new orders. The Boeing 787 has brought in so many orders that the company is having to replace workers at its South Carolina production facility with more automation to keep up. Boeing has also ramped up layoffs in order to keep the price of aircraft and aircraft services down to compete with French rival, Airbus.
Boeing has been laying off employees all over the country for various reasons with many of these layoffs happening in June-July (see article linked below).
In an effort to avoid more forced layoffs, Boeing has initiated a wave of voluntary layoff offers to give employees a chance to leave on their own with heads held high in South Carolina.
Boeing Co. has offered buyouts to many factory floor employees working on the top selling 787 Dreamliner in North Charleston. Workers have until Friday to accept current offers. Layoffs could follow.
Boeing cut over 7,000 members of its workforce in 2016 and has been shedding staff throughout 2017 so far.
