As part of efforts to provide a common platform that systematically supports all humanitarian and development actors in the North-east, stakeholders have resolved to recognise the primacy of the Presidential Committee on the North-east Initiative (PCNI) as the federal coordinating body and to harmonise its intervention efforts in compliance with the plan of the federal government.
This is the outcome of the inaugural edition of PCNI’s monthly coordination forum for key federal and state actors/stakeholders, ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) working in the North-east region held in Abuja Friday.
PCNI is charged with the responsibility of coordinating all interventions in the North-east and to oversee the recovery and rebuilding of the region.
According to a press release by the Chief Information Officer, PCNI, Odutayo Oduseyi, Frday, participants at the meeting also committed to aligning their efforts with the PCNI support and delivery frameworks designed to prevent duplication and saturation of efforts; to rapidly mobilise resources towards needy areas and entrench a culture of transparency in the management of aid efforts in the North-east.
The North-east stakeholders also collectively agreed to convene every month using the many communication and collaboration tools provided by PCNI to exchange information, update their operational framework and provide consensus on the coordination and delivery priorities identified by PCNI in order to achieve the strategic goals of the plan of the federal government.
The participants agreed that all stakeholders recognise the Buhari Plan which collapses the proliferation of agencies and committees into PCNI as the federal government leadership structure for effective sharing of opportunities, information and strategies; identification of duplication or saturation of efforts; and the leveraging of existing resources and structures in the recovery and rebuilding of the North-east.
According to the participants, all stakeholders affirm the severity of the humanitarian crisis in the North-east, hence all have stated their commitment to the communicative, collaborative and not competitive coordination process of this forum to accelerate effective recovery of the region.
THISDAY checks revealed that the PCNI process is targeted at enhancing frameworks, building delivery partnerships, augmenting capacities, filling gaps and promoting synergy among all humanitarian and development actors engaged in the region.
