Suspect Accused Of Fraud Dies In EFCC Custody

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been thrown into confusion as a suspect detained by the anti-graft agency has died in its custody.

The suspect, Arowofela Olufemi, gave up the ghost at about 5.30 am yesterday, November 28, shortly after he complained of chest pain and was
rushed to the nearby Military Hospital  before doctors could attend to him.

According to Sahara Reporters, the cause of the sudden death of the late Olufemi  hasn’t been ascertained by the anti-corruption body even as his corpse has been deposited at the mortuary of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

The late Olufemi’s family has also been informed of the incident while a report has been filed at the Onikan Division of the Nigeria Police.

The suspect was arrested following after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), reported him to the EFCC alleging that he was involved in the fraudulent conversion of dividend warrants to the tune of over N100 Million.

He was said to have been caught in the act as he was picked up at the bank while attempting to cash stolen dividend warrants. He was reportedly offered administrative bail, after his arrest and detention, but he could not produce a surety to finalise his bail.

Meanwhile, following the continuous fuel scarcity in Nigeria, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has engaged the services of the Department of State Security Services and the EFCC to stop the hoarding and diversion of petroleum products.
