"Can those who are not born again take the Holy Communion?" someone may ask. No, they can't. The one who hasn't given his heart to Christ can't partake of His life, because the Holy Communion is the communion of the body and blood of Christ. The only way to become one with the Lord is to be born again—to be born into Christ. Everyone who has taken this step qualifies to receive the communion anytime. By partaking of the communion, you reaffirm your oneness with the Lord, reminding yourself of who you are.
We do this according to the instructions of the Master, not so we can remember Him as one who just died for no reason, no! His vicarious death was for a reason. He died so that we may live, and now we live.
In participating in the communion, we remember Him in a celebration of life. No matter the difficulties and challenges you might be facing, as you take the communion, declare that everything is all right. The greater One lives in you, and is in control of the situation. Your confession of victory should be bold and sound, because Christ has given you the dominion and the advantage in life. That's what you affirm when you take the Holy Communion.
Christ has made you eternally triumphant! Let this be your consciousness as you take the communion. He said, "...do this in remembrance of me" (1 Corinthians 11:24); it's something He wants us to do often, to inspire our faith again and again: our faith in His vicarious death, and resultant victory and glory on our behalf.
PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank you for the joy of salvation, and the body of Jesus that was broken for me, so that I'll never be broken or defeated in life. Thank you, for His blood that was shed for the remission of sins, and by which I've become a master over circumstances, a carrier of the divine life, and a joint-heir with Christ, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
FURTHER STUDY
Isaiah 53:3-5
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
[4] Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
[5] But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
1 Corinthians 10:16-17
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
[17] For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.
