The President, Nigerian Institute of Quantity
Surveyors, Mallam Murtala Aliyu said all is set to make the forthcoming
conference a huge success. He explained that though staging such an impactful
event may require some hard work, but that he is confident that the positive
results that the conference is expected to generate, will far outweigh the
efforts put into organizing it.
This year’s conference is set to be a watershed,
as brilliant and eminent Nigerians will be on hand to deliberate and explore
the theme of the conference. Guest speakers include the honourable minister and
former Governor of Ekiti state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and the Executive Gov of
Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. Host governor is the Executive Governor
of Lagos, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode.
The panelists will be deliberating on high
impact topical issues such as policy making and the economy: how will having more
professionals in politics improve governance? How can the regulation of politics aid the
politics of service and accountable politics: What roles can professional
association play?
The Nigerian Institute of
Quantity Surveyors was founded in 1969 by a group of Nigerians who trained,
qualified and practiced in the United Kingdom but who upon returning to Nigeria
sensed the urgent need to develop the profession of Quantity Surveying in
Nigeria by establishing a parallel body to the Royal Institution of Chartered
Surveyors of United Kingdom.
The Profession of Quantity Surveying is practiced in Nigeria along
the same pattern as in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries. In
America, they are known as Cost Engineers. Quantity Surveying functions is
carried out in other countries under a variety of names. Thus, the role is
universal.
