The little girl was forced to marry an old man who is still unknown but this husband will not face trial.The case became known when authorities were informed by an NGO.
“It was lucky for us. Due to an NGO we were informed of the case. Usually people refuse to denounce child marriage,” said the source, adding that any subsequent trial would “serve as an example”.
The father of the girl has been arrested and kept in custody , however,the specific charges brought against him were not disclosed.
It remains to be seen whether the man will be charged at all. The arrest was made thanks to a system implemented by a local NGO, Jakawili, or “Solidarity”, in schools in central and northern Ivory Coast.
