According to a report, a Nigerian citizen who helped late Liberian national, Patrick Sawyer, to the hospital in Lagos, where he was later diagnosed of the virus, has reportedly developed symptoms of the Ebola virus.
The man, whose name has been witheld, came in contact with late Sawyer after helping him out of the airport to the First Consultants Hospital, where he eventually died few days after being diagnosed of the virus.
The suspected carrier who has been under close surviellence by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (CDC), Federal and Lagos State Ministries of Health, WHO and Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), reportedly developed persistent herrmorraigh fever, one of the symptoms of Ebola, and has been slow to respond to treatments.
However, when the Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Public Health, Yewande Adeshina, was consulted about the situation, she debunked claims, stating that nothing of such had occurred.
“It is not true. We have kept surveillance of all the number of people the man came in contact with,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has cautioned its officers and Marshals to be mindful of the deadly Ebola virus while rescuing accident victims.
Zonal Commanding Officer, RS5 Benin, Charles Akpabio, gave the advice while addressing newly promoted officers and Marshals of the zone who were decorated with their new ranks in Benin.
He urged officers and marshals to always ensure they wear protective clothing while on any rescue operation because of the recent case of Ebola decease in Lagos.
