Computer-Based Testing

Locate a computer based testing center.
Candidates need not have prior computer experience for computer-based testing (CBT). At the beginning of the test, each candidate will receive a brief introductory tutorial that will instruct the candidate how to use the computer to answer the questions and to review responses. The tutorial enables the candidate to try all of the features of computer-based testing before using them on items that will be scored. Candidates may use the tutorial for up to 10 minutes. A test center staff member is always available for any questions about using the computer. Candidates may preview the computer-based testing tutorial.
Test sessions may last up to 3 hours, including 10 minutes for the tutorial, 2 hours and 45 minutes for the test, and 5 minutes for an exit survey.
The CBT centers administer many types of examinations, including some that require essay-type response. Typing noise is considered a normal part of the computerized testing environment. Ear plugs are available at the center.
Candidates who experience problems with the position of their chair or monitor should raise their hand to request assistance from the test administrator in adjusting the chair height or monitor position.
Exiting the Examination Voluntarily
Candidates who voluntarily exit the examination at any point during the test will be considered finished, and their test will be scored. Candidates who voluntarily exit their test before they are finished may not restart the examination, or answer incomplete items. Numerous measures are in place to prevent candidates from accidentally exiting the examination.
